5 Unexpected Foods You Should Throw on the Grill Immediately
If you’re bored of grilling burgers and hot dogs, listen up. There are some delicious meal ideas that you can cook solely on the grill. Don’t believe us? Try these 5 grill options for yourself.
Pizza
You might be surprised to find out that making pizza on the grill is actually a popular practice. It saves you the time of preheating your oven and saves you even more time on cooking. The temperature of an open-flame grill will have your pizza ready much faster than an oven will. Many people claim that the hotter the oven, the better the pizza, and your grill is much hotter than any oven.
The key to successfully grill-cooking a pizza is being prepared. To do it right, you have to actually add the toppings while the pizza is on the grill. Because of that, it’s best that you have everything you need (toppings, sauce, cheese, etc.) within arm’s reach. Start with a hot grill and stretched dough. Lay the dough out with your tongs and brush it with olive oil. Let it cook on one side and flip it, and then you’re ready to add your sauce and toppings. Be careful not to overload the pizza with toppings or it may not cook properly.
Meatballs
Everyone knows that a grill is a great way to cook meat, but not a lot of people use them to make meatballs. Using a grill for these bad boys will give you a flavor and texture that you can’t achieve by cooking them any other way. These are great for any meatball sub or spaghetti dish you might make.
Skewers
Grilled chicken and veggie skewers are popular, but there are some pretty interesting recipes out there you may not have considered for your grill. You can also make watermelon and feta cheese skewers, ham, cheese, and pickle skewers, shrimp and avocado skewers, and corn and cotija skewers. You might be surprised at how much flavor a good char on the grill can add to these less obvious dishes. We recommend trying one (or all) of them.
Fruit
You might also be surprised to find that there are a variety of fruit-based grill recipes out there. You want to make sure your grill is extra clean before commencing cooking, but if you take the time to try some grilled fruit, you won’t regret it. One notable recipe is warm plums with ice cream or gelato. By brushing a halved, pitted plum with butter and putting it on the grill until it’s soft and you’ve got the perfect complement to any sweet dish. Another similar recipe is grilled pineapple with a sorbet. You can go wild and try sprinkling nuts or sugar on your grilled fruit too.
Grilled Cheese
Even though it says “grill” in the name, most people don’t think to make grilled cheese sandwiches on an actual grill. They should though, because it’s an excellent way to make one of your favorite savory meals. Make sure to oil your grates before placing your sandwich over the flame. Follow your usual grilled cheese recipe, or try adding some other ingredients, like grilled onions and peppers.
