7 Musicians That Prove It’s Okay to Be a Little Weird
There are some crazy musicians out there, aren’t they? I’m looking at you, Ozzy Osbourne. Or how about the time that Miley Cyrus did, well, just about anything these past 5 years?
However, for every one out there that is just plain nuts, there’s a handful of odd but downright cool musicians out there. These artists haven’t shied away from being different, and have inspired us to embrace our inner weirdo. Maybe they’ve done the same for you.
Prince
The late-and-great musical legend was one of the few people to pull off just about any outfit he put on. He was truly one of a kind, not just in his style, but in his musicianship as well. He’s also easily one of the greatest guitarists to have picked up the instrument. He’s still sorely missed every single day.
Blink-182
In the early 2000s, these guys were about as zany as you can get. From being naked in a music video to writing songs that would never fly on the radio, the San Diego pop-punk outfit embraced their immaturity and made it cool to be eternally young. Even today in their 40s they’re still clinging on to those teenage days. And it’s still hilarious and awesome.
“Weird Al” Yankovic
This is a no-brainer—”weird” is right in his name! The parody king has built up an iconic reputation with his hysterical songs over the course of nearly 25 years and has inspired other aspiring musician comics to do the same. Plus, you can recognize that long and curly hair immediately. It’s legendary.
Buckethead
One of the best guitarists of our time plays with a KFC bucket on his head. How stupid is that? His act may seem gimmicky, especially since he claims he was raised by chickens and constantly preaches about saving his precious animals, but he’s actually really talented. He’s also put out an insane amount of music: 28 albums over almost 30 years. Seriously, who does that?
Marilyn Manson
He’s turned down the insanity a little bit in recent years, but whether you like him or not, he’s inspired many people to love who they are and not really care what people think. Even if you hate him, you have to admit that it’s impressive how much he doesn’t give a damn.
Rivers Cuomo
He leans a bit more on the dorky side, but the Weezer frontman is definitely a little strange as well. Just this past year, he and the rest of the band did a music video that was solely dedicated to cannolis—so…there’s that.
Jack White
He’s always been a little creepy, but that’s really just in his appearance. For the most part, he seems like a genuinely nice guy that’s also a phenomenal musician. However, in his spare time he’s in love with doing taxidermy. Ummm, is anyone else getting a Norman Bates vibe?
