It's easy (almost too easy) to get carried away with blowing money on geek stuff. Decking your home from top to bottom in superhero merch may seem ridiculous to some, but at the same time, people who aren't obsessed Batman get to decorate their homes the way they want to—so why not us? Here are nine awesome superhero collectibles we won't judge you for buying, no matter how frivolous they may be.
Mega Buster
Does Mega Man count as a superhero? He damn well should. And his famous arm cannon, complete with lights and sounds and everything, is an actual thing you can own.
It's a little big for most arms, but over a big blue jacket it probably fits a little better. It also looks great on your mantle or in a display case by your bed…not that we have any such a thing ourselves. Of course not. Perish the thought.
You can also get the Blue Bomber's helmet in a wearable size, or crocheted, or scaled down to sit on your desk.
Batman: Black and White
Statues are among the priciest nerd accouterments around, but sometimes they're worth it. Like with the Batman Black and White statue series, which renders the Dark Knight in the style of classic artists like Darwyn Cooke, Brian Bolland, David Mazzucchelli, Dick Sprang, Bryan Hitch, Carlos D'anda, Lee Bermejo, and more.
That a character can vary so wildly and still be so iconic is a testament to the strength of Bob Kane and Bill Finger's original design.
Baby Groot
Everyone loves Groot. Everyone loves Baby Groot. For fans of the now-classic Abnett and Lanning run on Guardians of the Galaxy, seeing Groot onscreen was so wild we hadn't even dared to dream such a thing. For everyone else on the planet, it was love at first sight.
Why not bring him home with you?
In addition to being a heartwarming piece of decor, this is a great litmus test for life partners. If someone sees this and doesn't break down into joyful tears, they're either in for a good time because they're never seen GotG, or they're a heartless monster and you've just dodged a bullet.
Harley Quinn Mallet
Harley Quinn is a great character. From her inception on Batman: The Animated Series to today, her journey from “beleaguered Joker sidekick” to “independent woman” to “reluctant hero/antihero” is an empowering one. But a lot of the stuff out there for Harley fans veers towards the exploitative side.
If you're not as down with that, consider this enormous mallet. This particular one is modeled after the Suicide Squad movie, but the weapon has long been associated with Dr. Quinzel, and any fan will get it instantly. Also it's soft, so a stray thwack or two won't hurt anyone.
Deadpool Retro Action Figure Set
Long-time Deadpool fans know that part of the character's appeal is his fourth wall-breaking hijinks, from responding to “How long has it been since I've seen you?” with an issue number, to beating a video game opponent down with their own health bar, to the gloriously self-referential Ryan Reynolds movie.
That gentle poking at comics history continues with this “reproduction” of a Deadpool action figure from the 70s that clearly never existed. It comes complete with a full arsenal, four sets of hands, two heads (one masked and one…not), and the white costume he wore during his stint on the X-Force. It's awesome, it's thorough, and it's just cheeky enough that Deadpool himself would approve.
Rocketeer Legacy Action Figure
The best part of Dale Stevens' Rocketeer comic (and the movie that followed) was the giant love letter to art deco design. Some of that bleeds through in this classic 6″ figure, complete with that glorious, iconic helmet.
Captain America Shield
If it's good enough for Stephen Colbert, it's good enough for anyone. Captain America's shield is a great piece for people who like their patriotism bold, yet contemplative. Cap's conscience has always been an important part of his role as a symbol and as a fighter, and you will totally have a fun, easy time explaining that to people who ask you why you have a giant Captain America shield on your wall.
3D Deco Marvel Lights
These decorative lights adhere to your walls to make it look like classic Marvel weapons are either lodged into or breaking through them. Granted, some of these work better than others, but the ones that work are perfect. My favorites are the Hulk fist, Thor's hammer, and the Captain America shield. The downside is that these are battery-operated, so stock up.
Starling City PD Badge
My favorite references are the ones that fly a little under the radar. That makes this Starling City Police Department badge perfect for office decor (or cosplay). Anyone who follows DC's TV shows will instantly be hip to your Arrow ref. Anyone who doesn't will probably figure something's up, but never give it a second thought.
